Menlo Park Electric Garden Program

Electric Garden Voucher Program for the eligible residents and businesses in Menlo Park

With a new city regulation set to prohibit gas-powered leaf blowers and string trimmers starting July 1, 2024, Menlo Park is taking proactive measures to support its community by offering financial assistance to ease the transition to electric gardening tools. Eligible residents and non-gardening businesses can receive vouchers of up to $250, while gardening businesses may qualify for up to $1,000. These vouchers are redeemable towards the purchase of electric garden equipment, including leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, lawnmowers, and more. Once awarded, recipients will have 21 days to use the voucher at participating stores.

Acterra is proud to be working with the city to distribute the vouchers. Funding for this program comes from the City of Menlo Park.

About the Program

Empowering Sustainable Gardening with the Electric Gardening Voucher Program

The Menlo Park 2030 Climate Action Plan sets out a strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, aiming to shield the community from the urgent dangers of climate change, such as rising sea levels and floods. A significant source of carbon emissions within households is the utilization of gas-powered equipment for gardening and landscaping tasks. Transitioning to electric tools eliminates emissions, pollution, and has a positive impact on health.

While it’s feasible to switch to electric alternatives, this shift might present financial obstacles for residents with lower and moderate incomes. Given the impending City legislation that will likely ban the use of gas-powered gardening equipment, transitioning to electric options becomes even more essential. In response, the City is implementing an Electric Gardening Voucher Program to help alleviate some of the financial strain, enabling Menlo Park residents and businesses to purchase electric garden equipment.

Electric tools not only reduce carbon emissions but also offer benefits such as quieter operation, lower maintenance costs, and increased efficiency, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly community. Moreover, people do not waste money on gasoline, and electricity is often cheaper in the long run, further incentivizing the switch to electric equipment.
