Our Curricula

Introduction to Climate Change

The YBtC program provides educators with comprehensive, free climate change curricula designed to empower students with a strong understanding of climate science and to inspire meaningful action—both locally and globally.

Topics covered include:

  • Introduction to Climate Change

  • Air Quality

  • Food Systems

  • Renewable Energy & Electric Vehicles (EVs)

Our curricula support educators in meeting California’s AB 285 requirement to teach climate change education for grades 1–12. Designed to align with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), they deliver high-quality, relevant lessons that engage students in scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and engineering design.

The curricula are available in English and Spanish to ensure accessibility for diverse classrooms.

The programming and enrichment enable students to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of climate change science and its impacts around them.
  • Demonstrate written, visual, and oral presentation skills to communicate scientific knowledge.
  • Investigate air quality to learn how pollutants travel, how air quality is measured, and who is most affected by poor air conditions.
  • Explore environmental justice to understand how historical and systemic inequities influence exposure to environmental hazards and access to clean resources.
  • Critically analyze environmental information in the media by discerning reliable sources and effectively communicating environmental stories through writing, visuals, and digital media.
  • Examine sustainable agriculture by studying the relationships among food systems, soil health, and climate resilience, and by exploring ways to promote equitable and sustainable agricultural practices.
  • Engage in community problem-solving by applying data, creativity, and collaboration to identify local issues and design meaningful solutions.

    Testimonials

See what people in the community have to say.

Thank you for taking the time to put forth the presentation. It helps introduce the importance of the issue and connects directly with affected communities. If things were unknown, knowledge is the first step into action.

They smiled, they complained, they asked questions, they ignored, they got dirty and they cleaned things all within the same field trip. For a short period of time, they lived what we learn in our classroom about bringing balance back to our planet.

I appreciated the inclusion and consideration of factors of air quality on life beyond only the science and can see a bunch of possibilities of how to use this in the classroom.

Seriously, it was so helpful to have your perspective and expertise. I won't cover much of that content so it's super helpful for them to learn about it, and I think you really did inspire some ideas for their projects. I hope we can continue to work together in the future!
