From the Executive Director’s Desk: My Earth Month Message
Be a Part of Our Earth Month Success: Give to Acterra and Help Us Keep Going
I have the pleasure of telling bedtime stories to my daughter every night. And every night, the story revolves around a bad guy (sometimes it is a mirror, sometimes it is a rock, sometimes it is a “monster” with three eyes). Regardless of the bad guy, or the badness they’re trying to accomplish, my daughter (always the Princess in these stories) loves that feeling when we overcome that “bad-guyness” and come out on top. Wins are so important at any age and I have to admit, defeating a monster or two can feel pretty darn good, even if imaginary.

In our work at Acterra, we’re not up against something imaginary. Climate change is very real, tangible, and urgent — particularly this month. We see Earth Month as a win — it represents the best of all of us. Earth Month gives us hope that we can see ourselves through the darkness to the ultimate win.
Between our own Spring programs and partnering with fellow organizations doing community-based programming, Acterra spends this busy month actively bringing climate solutions to our communities and neighborhoods throughout the Bay Area — I’m sure you’ve even joined one of our programs this month! We are fighting the fear of climate change and climate anxiety with hopeful and actionable steps — we are the good guys fighting the bad guys. And we are winning!
You understand better than anyone that climate change is a serious and pressing issue that threatens the health and well-being of humans, natural systems, and the planet as a whole. Acterra has learned that the best antidote to the darkness of anxiety and fear is light — and we are dedicated all year long to shining a light on all the amazing work you, our partners and our staff are doing, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions through collective decarbonization programming, supporting renewable energy, elevating sustainable living practices, and advocating for government policies that address climate change.

But we can’t do this alone. We rely on the generous support of individuals like you who share our commitment to protecting the planet. Your donation will enable us to:
-
Continue to raise awareness about the urgency of the climate crisis and the need for action
-
Advocate for policies and regulations that promote renewable energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions
-
Provide education and resources to communities and businesses on sustainable practices and technologies
-
Support research and innovation in clean energy solutions; and
-
Engage in local and regional partnerships to amplify our impact and influence.
Your donation will help us continue our vital work to combat climate change and promote sustainability. With your help, we can make a real difference in the fight against climate change. Together, we can create a more sustainable, equitable, and resilient world for ourselves and future generations.
While we are proud of the progress we have made these last few years, there is still so much more that needs to be done.
Thank you for taking this journey with us.
