Latina/Latino/Latinx Heritage Month Begins
This week marks the start of Latina/Latino/Latinx Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15), a festive month when we celebrate the diverse and vibrant cultures of Mexico, the Caribbean, Spain, and Central and South America. Several important anniversaries in Latin American countries are included in this month of observances:
-
September 15, marks the independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
-
Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and 18, respectively.
-
The multicultural Día de la Raza, which falls on October 12, honors both the indigenous and European heritage of Mexico.
One of the ways we preserve cultural traditions is through food. Follow Acterra on social media this month as we recognize influential food bloggers, food ambassadors, and food writers of Indigenous, Latin American, and Hispanic descent who are contributing to cultural awareness.

(About our terminology: We strive to address Latinas, Latinos and Hispanics as inclusively as possible — while also being welcoming to non-binary, gender non-conforming and gender-expansive members of our community with the term Latinx. Indigenous, Brazilian and other non-Spanish speaking communities are also a vital part of this celebration.)
